Nearpod, Spring 2017-Present
I have recently joined the Nearpod team to help with a new project to revamp their Virtual Reality curriculum. Nearpod is an incredibly exciting teaching platform that allows teachers to leverage the devices of their students to create media-rich learning experiences. They have reached millions of students and I was honored to be given the opportunity to help shape their approach to teaching with VR. In my duties with Nearpod, I developed a protocol what the new curriculum would look like in order to best ensure that virtual reality was enhancing learning and amplifying critical thinking. I developed lessons as well as VR tours using the software Panotour Pro as exemplars for what the rest of the curriculum should be modeled on. I am very excited by the prospect of this project getting into the hands of so many learners, and my experience at Nearpod showed me the value of the d.school's tenet of "bias toward action" in real life.

Stanford History Education Group, Fall 2016-Present
I am currently working for Stanford History Education Group on their current civic online reasoning project. The executive summary of SHEG's recent report can be found here: ed.stanford.edu/ldt. Since its publication, the report has been picked by several major news organizations (NPR, Wall Street Journal, NBC) in context with the election and fake news epidemic. Throughout the course of my internship, I have coded experiment videos comparing Stanford students, historians, and fact-checkers from major news outlets as they attempt various online tasks. I have developed assessments intended to help teachers scaffold digital literacy skills that have been piloted in Bay Area classrooms. I have reflected on data from piloted assessments and coded for insights. I am now collaborating on the design of a curriculum meant to help teachers build civic online reasoning skills. I have made lessons on algorithms, using Wikipedia responsibly, and media diet that have been piloted to thousands of high school and college students across the country.

Yes Prep Brays Oaks High School, Fall 2013-Spring 2016
After graduating from Vanderbilt with my teaching license, I accepted an offer in Houston, Texas to teach 9th World Geography and coach the varsity soccer team. In the first two years, I helped redesign the district curriculum with a project-based learning framework. In my third year, I taught AP US History, Government and Economics. I love designing discussion and debate-oriented modules using Reading Like a Historian as a guiding framework. I also designed and led a 6-week professional development cycle about engagement and inquiry. I have always felt that history and social studies have been relatively underserved with respect to education technology compared STEM and language learning, and I have seen first hand how unequipped students are to navigate all of the information available on the internet. I think history classrooms provide a fantastic entry point for teaching civics and digital literacy in a day and age that so desperately needs both.

Hillsboro High School and TW Hunter Middle School, Fall 2012-Spring 2013
In my senior year as a student in the secondary education of history program at Vanderbilt's Peabody College, I taught at two different locations throughout the year as a part of the certification process. Vanderbilt is one of the few institutions that offers a teaching licensure program for undergrads. I taught AP Psychology for an eight-week period at Hillsboro High School in the Metro Nashville Public School system and later that year taught 7th Grade World Cultures at TW Hunter Middle School out in rural Hendersonville, Tennessee. These vastly different experiences had a lasting impact on me and helped illuminate the incredible disparities that exist in the American school system.
